The East Cape Health Center's mission is to take proactive action to provide the needed dental care to the children in the East Cape region. 

Our dental personnel go into the local schools and Albergues providing dental hygiene instruction and evaluation. A tooth brush, toothpaste, and dental floss are given to every student. Each child is programmed for a follow-up appointment in the clinic and dental treatment as necessary, at no cost to the family. 

The goals of the East Cape Health Center include early detection and prevention of tooth decay and gingivitis, stressing the importance of proper brushing and flossing. As oral health is important to overall health and wellbeing, proper oral hygiene may help eradicate systemic infections that affect vital organs including the heart's valve structures.

There is no way to measure the overall appearance and the self esteem that a healthy smile can bring to these children.

The Children's Dental Program was initiated in August, 2008. Since that time we have given dental instruction to over 1,000 children in the schools.

In our Dental Clinic we treated over 500 children with free dental care in 2009 and 2010. This year 2011, we have exceeded our expectations by giving free dental care to  628 children between January 1 and October 1. These treatments include cleanings, fillings, root canals, and other procedures. We have many more youngsters scheduled in the upcoming months.

Our wish is to provide dental care to every child within a 40 mile radius of Los Barriles.
